Greatest Gift….

August 24, 2010

Being a parent myself, I have always felt there is no greater love and admiration than for that of your child.  However, having experienced a very ill parent proves that the love a child has for a parent is equally as deep.  This past week my father was admitted to the hospital after not feeling well.  Allow me to back up and explain that a week prior to this ER visit, he had a heart procedure.  He was starting to feel a lot better and then suddenly took a drastic turn for the worse…..bringing us to this first ER visit this past Monday.  He admitted himself and they didn’t see anything vascularly wrong.  As a result, they sent him home.  Two days later, he readmitted himself and vowed to not leave until they found the culprit.  He was having severe pain to his right side.  His right knee, shoulder, elbow, and now ankle are all swelling and causing immense pain.

In all 35 years of my life, I have NEVER seen this man in physical pain…….and certainly not able to move.  When my step mom called stating he was at the ER again and they suspected a stroke, I lost it.  I was a complete basket case….so much though that I wasn’t able to go see him, as I knew he would get aggravated with my emotional state….thankfully he was in good hands with Sandy and my brother.  I sucked it up, gained my composure and marched myself up there at 8am the following morning….bound and determined to have a word the doctor.  As I entered the room, I lost it.  I can honestly say seeing my sweet dad laying there motionless, struggling to speak his thoughts, not knowing what was wrong with his otherwise very healthy body, was one of the hardest things I have encountered in my adult life.  I broke down.  I was an absolute mess and knew for his sake I needed to get myself together and quickly.  In true “first born, daughterly fashion”, I bucked up and got to work.  I was determined to find out what was causing this pain.

While we still aren’t certain the diagnosis, we know our prayers have been answered….we know he is going to be okay (well as okay as Frank can be :)), and we are hopeful to not encounter this severe pain anytime in the near future.  Brad, his children, and myself met at the hospital today.  We were greeted by a dressed, groomed and smiling patient who suggested we escape the room for a lunch down at the “garden level”.

Long story short, he is still there and we are hopeful he will leave this week.  While it has been a very long week, it has been nice spending quality time with my wonderful step-mom, brother, his children, and of course the patient.  I was reminded that family is special and to not be taken for granted.  I have always had a special place in my heart for Dad, but now that space is even larger.  Walking into that room last week and honestly not knowing how this would end, was a paralyzing feeling….and one I hope to not experience again.

Thank you to everyone for their prayers.  A huge thank you to my clients for their patience and understanding during this emotional time……and most importantly, thank you to my husband and children.  They have carried on beautifully while I was at the hospital……..truth be told, I am sure they welcomed the break from me. :)

The greatest gift I ever had
Came from God; I call him Dad!

I know, I know….I make big promises to stay on top of the blog, and I continue to neglect….It has been a crazy summer.  From taking over 200+ dancers images at a local dance studio to running around like crazy with the children, this summer has proved to be busier than I anticipated….not to mention hotter!!  I have been plans to be caught up by the end of next week….{I recommend not holding your breath or placing bets :)}

At any rate, here is my attempt at keeping up with sneak peeks.  It seems most of the sneak peeks make it to the fan page (www.facebook.com/nataliekphotography), I am slacking here on the blog-front…feel free to join the fan page to be updated with the most recent sessions as well as specials…

Back to the subject at hand….this beautiful mama and her adorable boys…I have known this beauty for almost 15 years and absolutely love photographing her family.  It recently expanded and I enjoyed meeting her new addition….he is stunningly handsome and loved by all!!  Thanks L for a wonderful evening.  It was great seeing you and the boys!  Enjoy!

HELLLLOOO!!

June 30, 2010

I have been a very, very bad blogger <hangs head in shame>.  I have to admit, I have been a bit busy lately…..took approximately 250+ dancers images at a local dance studio (www.thedancespace.org), have been swamped with sessions (which is an awesome thing!!), added a child to the mix who is now 1 (hear active), and we have decided to put our house on the market.  It has been a bit of a whirlwind here for the K family….however, I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I actually think I need chaos to live….of course, I like to think my chaos is organized (no comments needed).  And is it just me, or are the offspring fighting a lot this summer?!?!

At any rate, I am making a promise to blog more often.  I actually enjoy blogging and I know you all are on the end of your chairs waiting (anxiously) to see what I am going to say/post next…..and if you aren’t you can pretend you are….ithankyouverymuch.

I recently photographed this adorable family.  I have known this guy for a while and was so excited when he married his beatiful wife.  They are expecting a sweet boy next month.  Excited to photograph the newborn images too.  Isn’t this mama BEAUTIFUL!!!

This sweet boy’s mom wanted to get one last photo session in before her five-year-old son looses his first tooth.  That feeling is very familiar to me so I was happy when we captured a great shot of his sweet smile.  Enjoy your first visit from the Tooth Fairy, little man!

Sereina: Love the last one!

Our spring mini-sessions were a big hit!  We had such a great time watching the little ones interact (i.e., cuddle, chase, nibble…) with these adorable bunnies.   Thank you for sharing your sweet Easter-clad kiddos with us!  Oh, and of course, a huge THANK YOU to the bunnies.  They were fabulous!!!  Here are a few of our favorite sneak peeks.

First, a note to my blog:  Dear blog, I’m sorry you have been severely neglected lately and the following post is out of chronological order.  However, I now VOW to update you regularly with due diligence.  I have made this promise before, but this time is different.  I promise!  :-)

So…this is going to be a MAJOR catch-up posting starting with the fabulous families we photographed for the 2009 holiday season.  It is always such a joy to see our returning clients and to meet new families as well.    A big THANK YOU to each of you for sharing a bit of the holidays with us!    Here are a few sneak peeks of these amazing families.
