I almost forgot today’s image.  I really, really wanted to cheat and use one I took yesterday, but thought better of it.  These two little angels were the only ones not in the bathroom, so they were the selected ones. The image is poorly lit (couldn’t find my external flash) and oddly cropped, but that is sorta how I am feeling these days…oh who am I fooling, that is sorta how I roll :)  I am marking of tonight’s last “to do” list item and hitting the hay.  I have vowed that my “night owl” days are over…I have GOT to get more on a ‘normal’ schedule.  If someone knows what ‘normal’ is, please enlighten me….

…on our 365 photo day challenge.  I am looking forward to starting and hopefully completing this challenge (no comments from the peanut gallery should I miss a few days…not that I am planning on doing such a thing).  I have wanted to do this for several years and am gonna get it done this year.  Anyway, I am sure some of you are noticing that it is actually the 2nd day of January.  While technically it is, we are not technical here on this blog, we are flying by the seat of our pants in true Nat fashion.  Having said that, it is still the 1st by my book.  I am a night-owl and truly enjoy my Nat time as I burn the midnight oil….or 3:31 night oil as it is now.  I would be in bed now, but my trusty (ahem) Dell decided to stall out on my right about the time I was going to enter in the picture of my boy….so I opened up a bag of chocolate and got pissy….well, we are back and I got smart and am using the iMac (a little business gift to myself) and while I don’t have pictures saved on this computer, I am smarter than that….and will figure out a way to get my bubs on this computer so I can in fact complete day 1 of this awesome (yawn) challenge.  As I was saying on the Dell, I have decided to start this challenge (is there another word for this??) with my baby boy.  I am absolutely smitten with this little fella I lovingly call, the Pitcher.  I call him this b/c….anyone have a guess?  Well, because he likes to throw and while I am no expert, I am thinking (please wait while I google that pitcher’s name) Nolan Ryan might have a run for his money. :)  I also like to call him the growler b/c (yes you guessed it), he likes to growl.  The pitcher is the last of three children and when we decided to have a third (hear, I begged and CK was indecisive on whether having a child at 40 was such a good idea…for himself, I am MUCH younger than him), we had no idea what little creature was going to be blessed upon us….he is truly the cherry on top.  He is my drug.  Every morning I look forward to waking him up and smelling his sleepy smell, kissing his super chub cheeks, ruffling his crazy hair (no, don’t plan on cutting it), and dodging his loving swats.  Meet our Pitcher, the growler, Mr. CJK in da house….our bubs (bubbers, bubbies)….

Thank you so very much for blessing me with your presence in my life….for making me a 3 time mama bear….for rocking my world, for completing me, for loving me even when, I too am growling. :)

And b/c this is still the 1st day of January a big HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all… I am VERY much looking forward to 2011.  2010 was a fine year, and I have a feeling 2011 will be another fine (if not finer) year.  We have LOTS of awesome changes coming our way for NKP.  I can’t wait to share them all with you….but for now, a little giveaway…(also to see how many readers I still have out there)…the first 5 peeps to book a paid session for 2011, will receive a COMPLIMENTARY (fancy word for free) 16×20 canvas…yeppers, that is right, a purdy canvas picture of your loved ones.  I only have 5 to give away, so email me at nknabe@verizon.net if you are planning on being one of those lucky 5….I promise you, this will not happen again in 2011…so get em while the getting is hot!

Every new year people make resolutions to change aspects of themselves they believe are negative. A majority of people revert back to how they were before and feel like failures. This year I challenge you to a new resolution. I challenge you to just be yourself. ~ Aisha Elderwyn

As of this week, he is doing much, MUCH better!  He is still not 100% and has episodes of swelling and pain, but with he steroid shot to his knee, he is doing a lot better!  More than anything I think he is frustrated with not being 100%.  He came over last week and we spent the better part of the morning and early afternoon together.  So thankful he is out of the hospital and feeling better.

And seeing how no post would be complete without images, I thought I would also share some images of my perfect angels….

blog-041Yep, that is how they roll…..the oldest is complaining, E is asking how much longer she has to stand there, and the sweet baby boy is just glad to be here. :)  More times than not, this is what I get when I try to take pics….

However, I won this battle….amazing how a simple, “if we don’t get this shot, you will not ride another ride” will change their attitudes…..I tell them how thankful they will be for all the images I have of them <insert eye rolls>. :)  Much like I am thankful my dad had his camera out when we were growing up.

After visiting with this adorable family, we realized we used to be neighbors.  Apparently, we lived caddy corner from each other and didn’t know it!  I wish I would have known them then as they are super fun!  I had a hard time narrowing down their sneak peeks….

Greatest Gift….

August 24, 2010

Being a parent myself, I have always felt there is no greater love and admiration than for that of your child.  However, having experienced a very ill parent proves that the love a child has for a parent is equally as deep.  This past week my father was admitted to the hospital after not feeling well.  Allow me to back up and explain that a week prior to this ER visit, he had a heart procedure.  He was starting to feel a lot better and then suddenly took a drastic turn for the worse…..bringing us to this first ER visit this past Monday.  He admitted himself and they didn’t see anything vascularly wrong.  As a result, they sent him home.  Two days later, he readmitted himself and vowed to not leave until they found the culprit.  He was having severe pain to his right side.  His right knee, shoulder, elbow, and now ankle are all swelling and causing immense pain.

In all 35 years of my life, I have NEVER seen this man in physical pain…….and certainly not able to move.  When my step mom called stating he was at the ER again and they suspected a stroke, I lost it.  I was a complete basket case….so much though that I wasn’t able to go see him, as I knew he would get aggravated with my emotional state….thankfully he was in good hands with Sandy and my brother.  I sucked it up, gained my composure and marched myself up there at 8am the following morning….bound and determined to have a word the doctor.  As I entered the room, I lost it.  I can honestly say seeing my sweet dad laying there motionless, struggling to speak his thoughts, not knowing what was wrong with his otherwise very healthy body, was one of the hardest things I have encountered in my adult life.  I broke down.  I was an absolute mess and knew for his sake I needed to get myself together and quickly.  In true “first born, daughterly fashion”, I bucked up and got to work.  I was determined to find out what was causing this pain.

While we still aren’t certain the diagnosis, we know our prayers have been answered….we know he is going to be okay (well as okay as Frank can be :)), and we are hopeful to not encounter this severe pain anytime in the near future.  Brad, his children, and myself met at the hospital today.  We were greeted by a dressed, groomed and smiling patient who suggested we escape the room for a lunch down at the “garden level”.

Long story short, he is still there and we are hopeful he will leave this week.  While it has been a very long week, it has been nice spending quality time with my wonderful step-mom, brother, his children, and of course the patient.  I was reminded that family is special and to not be taken for granted.  I have always had a special place in my heart for Dad, but now that space is even larger.  Walking into that room last week and honestly not knowing how this would end, was a paralyzing feeling….and one I hope to not experience again.

Thank you to everyone for their prayers.  A huge thank you to my clients for their patience and understanding during this emotional time……and most importantly, thank you to my husband and children.  They have carried on beautifully while I was at the hospital……..truth be told, I am sure they welcomed the break from me. :)

The greatest gift I ever had

I know, I know….I make big promises to stay on top of the blog, and I continue to neglect….It has been a crazy summer.  From taking over 200+ dancers images at a local dance studio to running around like crazy with the children, this summer has proved to be busier than I anticipated….not to mention hotter!!  I have been plans to be caught up by the end of next week….{I recommend not holding your breath or placing bets :)}

At any rate, here is my attempt at keeping up with sneak peeks.  It seems most of the sneak peeks make it to the fan page (www.facebook.com/nataliekphotography), I am slacking here on the blog-front…feel free to join the fan page to be updated with the most recent sessions as well as specials…

Back to the subject at hand….this beautiful mama and her adorable boys…I have known this beauty for almost 15 years and absolutely love photographing her family.  It recently expanded and I enjoyed meeting her new addition….he is stunningly handsome and loved by all!!  Thanks L for a wonderful evening.  It was great seeing you and the boys!  Enjoy!

HELLLLOOO!!

June 30, 2010

I have been a very, very bad blogger <hangs head in shame>.  I have to admit, I have been a bit busy lately…..took approximately 250+ dancers images at a local dance studio (www.thedancespace.org), have been swamped with sessions (which is an awesome thing!!), added a child to the mix who is now 1 (hear active), and we have decided to put our house on the market.  It has been a bit of a whirlwind here for the K family….however, I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I actually think I need chaos to live….of course, I like to think my chaos is organized (no comments needed).  And is it just me, or are the offspring fighting a lot this summer?!?!

At any rate, I am making a promise to blog more often.  I actually enjoy blogging and I know you all are on the end of your chairs waiting (anxiously) to see what I am going to say/post next…..and if you aren’t you can pretend you are….ithankyouverymuch.

I recently photographed this adorable family.  I have known this guy for a while and was so excited when he married his beatiful wife.  They are expecting a sweet boy next month.  Excited to photograph the newborn images too.  Isn’t this mama BEAUTIFUL!!!

This sweet boy’s mom wanted to get one last photo session in before her five-year-old son looses his first tooth.  That feeling is very familiar to me so I was happy when we captured a great shot of his sweet smile.  Enjoy your first visit from the Tooth Fairy, little man!
